This is the feast day of St Scholastica (pictured above), who died today in 543. She was the first Benedictine nun, and was apparently the twin sister of St Benedict. The holy siblings allowed themselves to meet up once a year, and now share a grave.
Today in 1535, 11 Anabaptists and a confused Catholic woman ran naked through Amsterdam to proclaim the coming of a new Eden. Their punishment for apocalyptic streaking was to be beheaded.
Today saw the oldest known papal decretal (a letter from a pope containing church law), in 385. Issued by Bishop Siricius of Rome, it covers many issues of church discipline, including baptism, penance, and the celibacy of the clergy.
